San Clemente firm gets sweetener OK

A San Clemente company announced Wednesday that it has won FDA approval to market ZSweet, an all natural zero calorie sweetener.

Ventana Health Inc. said ZSweet us a blend of food extracts from fruits and vegetables and erythritol, a natural sugar alcohol. The company said it does not chemically alter any of its ingredients and does not use carbohydrate fillers, the latter of which is used by popular sugar substitutes as Equal, Splenda and Sweet’N Low, said Ventana chief executive Tim Avila.

ZSweet will be available online in January, the company said.
